Great Day in the Deadmines

Success! Nine of us came out to run the Deadmines! Thanks to all who made the run! It really was a great time. We’ve never had so many guildmates together in one spot at once; seven of us made it into the above shot.

Of course, we had to divide into teams, since there can only be 5 in a group for this instance. So Group 1 above (left to right) had Strago (mage, lvl 39), Nikitta, (warrior, 24), Phalen (hunter, 25), Khaskassia (shamen, 18), and Nisou (Priest, 10). Nisou is my new alt. The second group had Pooba (warrior, 57), Warrriorgal (warrior, 15), Eulna (priest, 12) and Aedari (Shaman, 11). They’ll have to post their own end-of run celebration picture…

If you couldn’t make it today, we missed you But don’t worry! We’re doing this again, most likely next week. If this time of day isn’t working out for you or you want a different instance let us know. We can be flexable!

A Day at the Deadmines

This weekend we tried something new for us…a guild instance run! Unfortunately it was short notice, so only three of us could participate. Remina is on the right, I’m on the left, and in the middle is Syrnx, our own Khaskassia’s other character. We were also joined by Khas’ hunter brother, Voltaire (not his full name, but that’s all I remember…) and another character we met during the adventure.

We’re going to try and make instance runs a weekly event. So we’re going to do this again this coming Saturday. So far the agreed time is 2pm Easter Daylight Time (I think that’s the same as 11:00am game time…). We might do either Deadmines again or Black Fathom Deeps. If you have a character in need of stuff or leveling, bring them along! We’d love to have you join us!

The Darkmoon Faire

The Darkmoon Faire is a carnival that travels between Elwynn Forest, Mulgore, and Terokkar Forest in Outland. It opens on the first Monday of each month and stays for one week, though it can be seen setting up for a few days before it opens.

There are many things to do at the Darkmoon Faire. Visit the fortune teller Sayge to get your fortune read and one of several different temperary buffs. You also just might get a quest with your fortune.

Bring a friend, and duke it out with the Faire's custom Tonks. Each one comes with several different abilities.

Please your inner daredevil with a ride in the Faire's cannon. Its a blast! Aim for the lake or your in for a hard landing.

The Darkmoon Faire also has refreshments for sale and prizes to give out. The prizes will require Faire tickets however. Many of the Faire workers are willing to give you a few in exchange for a little favor.

A Very Useful Trinket

Because we’re a Draenei-only guild, we have lots of jewelcrafters. Pooba made an interesting discovery a couple weeks ago…there are recipes you have to buy that create items that only Jewelcrafters get to use. Why? These items ‘bind on pick-up.’ That means as soon as they’re crafted, they become bound to the maker.

While some 'bind-on-pickup' recipes do come from trainers (like the Jade Owl), others must be gotten elsewhere, like The Golden Hare figurine. This trinket increases speed slightly, and can be used to increase speed by 30% while preventing snares from working for 6 seconds. That may not sound like much, but I used it recently in Warsong Gulch to capture two enemy flags. Its usefulness may not be significant elsewhere, but I’m really glad I had it when I did.

It was a reminder to me that not all jewelcrafting items you can learn to make are taught by the usual trainers. The Golden Hare is a drop recipe you can only get by killing the right monster or buying at the auction house. Not all items are useful for all characters. There are full lists you can find; look them over and see what you can search out that would be useful to you!

Correction to ‘Map Coordinates; a fast and easy macro’

Khaskassia discovered a problem with my coordinates macro (2/19/08)…it didn’t work as easily as advertised! So we played with it a bit until a better solution was found.

It turns out that each of the two lines of the macro (they start with /script) need to be pasted into the macro as full lines. So go here, copy the two lines, and past them in the macro box. This should work. If not, let me know.

Dicing in the Deadmines

Instancing is lots of fun. Especially with guildmates! Not too long ago Strago, Dertus, Crivins and I devoured the Deadmines. Poor Defias dudes and goblins never stood a chance (click on the picture below for a full-size view).

We should do more of this! Do you need time in an instance? Let us know! We’ll put a party together!
