Map coordinates; a fast and easy macro.

If you’re having trouble finishing a quest and surf the internet for a guide or assistance, you’re likely to come across help that includes coordinates. But then you need something to help you find the coordinates you want.

There are many add-on programs that do this, but the simplest and easiest I’ve found works right inside WoW program itself. All you need to do is create a macro with the correct instructions.

You can learn how to create a macro here.

As for the lines of text, here’s what I found and use:

/script px,py=GetPlayerMapPosition ("player")

/script DEFAULT_CHAT_FRAME:

AddMessage(format("[ %s ] %i , %i",GetZoneText(),px*100,py*100));

Here’s how it looks in my macro window in WoW:

Once you have assigned an icon and placed it in one of your action bars, pressing it will give you a response like (xx,xx). The first part measures from west to east, and the second from north to south. So (0,0) would be the upper-left of the map and (99,99) would be in the lower right.

Try it! It’s been a timesaver for me when I’m looking for the place to complete a quest and the best clue I can find is coordinates. If you’re having difficulty with this, let me know and I’ll see what I can do to help.

New Guild Rankings are Here!

The ranking structure that the Guild Officers approved early this year is now in place. Sorry it took me so long!

If you have any questions PLEASE ask me!

If you read the Guild log it might appear that there were lots of demotions; this is because we had to add a rank, and they can only be added at the bottom and re-name those above. So we had to step almost everyone down to the new equivalent rank. But with only a couple exceptions in the 'Captain' rank (now Envoy), no one was demoted. If you think there’s been an error, PLEASE let me know. I screen-captured the ranks before the change so I can double-check if there’s any question.

Here are the equivalents…

Old / New

2nd Lt. / Harbinger

1st Lt. / Peacekeeper

Captain / Envoy

Major / Anchorite

Colonal / Artificer

General / Vindicator

Executor / (new)

Guild Master / Guild Master

You can read more about these ranks and what they mean in my post below from January 31st. If your two primary professional skills add up to 150 or higher, and you're not in the Envoy rank, let me know!

Fishing contests!

Did you know that there are fishing contests in WoW? Pooba told me that every Sunday they're held at Booty Bay. There's a guy near the flight path who will give you a fishing ticket. Here's what the WoW web site says...

The Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza is a grand event set along the coasts of Stranglethorn Vale. This contest happens every Sunday at 2 p.m. game time. Early in the day, friendly neighborhood goblins will visit Ironforge and Orgrimmar to inform aspiring anglers of the grand tournament and give instructions. At the appropriate time, the shout will ring out across Stranglethorn to bait your hooks and cast your lines!

Will you be the master fisherman that gathers the necessary amount of tastyfish to win the grand prize? Can you reel in the right fish to receive some of famous Nat Pagle's fabulous fishing equipment? Will the Lucky Fishing Hat make its triumphant return onto the heads of anglers everywhere? You'll soon find out!

If you've taken part in these events, let me know!
